Foreword by Wattana Wattanapun
International solo on ”Lanna“ by Lim Siang Jin – this online exhibition, comprising 20 parts, is from May 6 to June 5, 2025
IT’S NOT OFTEN that we meet an artist with the depth of knowledge and expansive abilities of Siang Jin. He is a sociologist, journalist, one of the founders of The Edge—a major business weekly in Malaysia—and the owner of a private gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
In 2023, I had the pleasure of visiting Siang Jin in Kuala Lumpur. I was invited to present and discuss my art with his circle of artist colleagues and enthusiasts. The event was well attended and received with great interest. We also visited several galleries, like the National Art Gallery, and were hosted by several prominent art collectors.
Then, in January 2025, Siang Jin visited me at my art gallery in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was his second visit. I arranged for him to meet and present his work to my artist colleagues from Northern Thailand, and to visit the studios of several National Artists of Thailand.
During his stay in Lanna (Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai), he was engaging and enthusiastic—generously sharing his broad artistic knowledge and thoughtful insights. Through his keen eye and discerning photography, he also documented the rich symbolism and cultural nuances of the region.
Congratulations on your exhibition, Siang Jin!
Well done, my friend.
